Captain EuropeThe Legacy of Heroes

These are troubled times. More than mankind has ever known. More than the superhuman population has ever been asked to face. We are on the brink of what, for lack of a better term, could become the end of the human species as we know it. And what's worse, we can't blame alien invasion or a lethal plague or a shortage of necessity. We can only blam ourselves. Our greed, our ambition, and our principles have led us here.

So we are perservering. We are fighting against that greed and ambition and plague, with the hopes that our strengths will outweigh our weaknesses. We've always done this, so it's nothing new; the difference really lies in the scope. Now, where before we were fighting for the safety of our cities, we have to fight for the safety of the world. We have to fight the Nazi menace because it's the right thing to do, and if we don't fight and if we don't win, then defending our cities won't matter any more?

But that doesn't mean that we have to abandon the smaller fights to fight the bigger ones. What it means, instead, is that we have to ask those who may or may not have been ready to step up to the plate, and be bigger than they were supposed to be. We have to ask a lot of people to grow up faster than they should've. I can't imagine what that'll do to them in the future. But I don't have the luxury of that either; all I know is that somewhere out there, heroes are dying to save the world. A lot of them won't come home. The least we can do is make sure that those who do come home are safe when they get here.
