| Background |
Not much is known about the creature dubbed Apocalypto. It first appeared in 1996 near an Antarctic research station and then again in 1997 when it appeared in Mexico City and destroyed large parts of the city as well as the Mexican super hero team, Guardas. The Sentinels and the New Men have launched investigations into its origins and motivation but have so far failed to fully understand this creature. Its latest appearance was in Thailand where it was successfully defeated by the Sentinels. There has been an unconfirmed appearance in China, but the Chinese government has refused to give any details. |
| Personality |
It appears that Apocalypto only exists to destroy. Saul Numen has investigated the dimension Apocalypto apparently comes from and has deduced that the creature known as Apocalypto is actually the remnants of a civilisation which was destroyed in that dimension - possibly due to the interference of the dimension-hopping man known as Prospero. Regardless of its origins, Apocalypto poses a serious threat to the Earth, and to any dimension it decides to appear in. It has been responsible for the deaths of thousands but the body count will only rise with future visits. |
| Quote |
Apocalypto does not speak any known Earth languages. Its speech sounds like a cacophony of screams, ultrasonic shrieks, very low rumblings and chopped rapid-fire clicks.
|
| Powers |
Apocalypto is incredibly strong and destructive. It is 80m tall and half again as wide. Its tendrils seem capable of co-ordinated attacks as well as independent thought. They are used to ensnare opponents or to render them into bloody pieces; to drain the very life force from living things or to crush the inanimate world around it into rubble. The creature's skin seems almost impenetrable except for coordinated attacks by the earth's greatest heroes. During one attack against the Sentinels, Apocalypto showed some vulnerability to gravity-based attacks.
|
| Appearance |
Apocalypto appears in this dimension as a very large blue-black creature which appears to be very malleable. It can create hundreds of powerful tendrils from its body and uses these to lash out constantly. It has dozens of small red eyes which seem to sink back into the amorphous mass and then reappear at other points. It has the ability to create a gaping mouth, although its voice doesn't seem to come from this opening, but rather it seems to be generated within and to seep out through the creature's skin. |
