Fernando Delgado spent most of his adolescence building the Black Rhino armour, scavenging components from the scenes of the latest conflicts between government and insurgents. He displayed an inventive flare which was never fully cultivated in the war-torn country. Delgado was never really concerned with education though. He was driven from a very young age to fight against the government. His uncle was a well-placed rebel and Delgado grew to idolise him. After his uncle's death at the hands of government troops, Delgado stepped up his inventions, determined to emulate the super heroes from Europe and the USA and bring about a lasting peace for his country. While working his way through the shadows, Delgado also began to work with foreign news agencies during the day, helping to highlight atrocities and corruption in his homeland. Although he wasn't optimistic about the possibility, there was always the chance that the United Nations or America would be moved by the plight of his people and do something about it. His work with the journalists allowed him to help shape the view of the outsiders. He took them to places where his message would be found, whether it was to those who were suffering or to those who were perpetuating the suffering. His work with the journalists allowed him some kind of comradeship, but Delgado knew that his life was meant to be solitary, and that he would be most effective as Black Rhino - hunting the corruption at night.
He never really believed his fight would be easy. He began by targeting corrupt government troops and agencies, but soon realised that the corruption went deeper. The rebels were also rife with corruption and it seemed sometimes that both sides of the conflict had more in common than they had differences. Delgado became a little jaded, but even as the proof of corruption expanded, his resolve to never give up intensified. |

Delgado has grown up in a war zone. He views every moment as a struggle between life and death and feels those who have succumbed to corruption are not worthy of life. He rarely feels guilt for killing his opponents, although he does try to distinguish between the 'foot soldiers' and the 'masterminds'. He is more likely to use lethal force on the powers behind the crime. He wants to end the fighting in Angola but has no idea of how to do that except to take out the corrupt people one by one. He knows in his heart that it is an impossible task but Black Rhino possesses an inordinate level of stubbornness. He will never give up and feeds off the cockiness of his opponents. If it looks as if he is being beaten or cornered, Black Rhino actually taps into further reserves of that stubbornness and seems to gather a second wind. Black Rhino is ruthless and has killed dozens of opponents. If he believes a person is evil then that person will never be given mercy. If he believes a person is a victim, however, he can show great tenderness which hints at his inner turmoil. He is a man who has been unable to really enjoy the life experience, and even his secret identity seems drawn to danger, death and atrocity in the company of international news agencies. |

Black Rhino wears a specially designed suit of body armour reinforced by an intricate web of energy conduits which form an energy exoskeleton. He complements his armour with a utility belt and wrist blasters, which allows him access to a wide variety of offensive, defensive and investigative devices. |

The Black Rhino armour has seen a lot of action. There are chips in the armour and other dents which hint at lethal frays. The armour itself is standard, but is
overlaid with an intricate (and sensitive) array of receptors and conduits which channel energy from the power cells located around his body, into a strong energy exoskeleton. The exoskeleton appears as a shimmering orange force field and occasionally crackles (due to the patch-jobs undertaken on the system over the years). The helmet has a distinctive 'rhino' look with a short, but dense, horn which contains the suit's enhanced sensor suites and several power cells. |
