The Misfits of Science were harvested across North America during the crisis surrounding the coming of the New Millennium. The Y2K Bug crossed America from Los Angeles to Washington DC causing as much chaos as possible during the last two weeks of 1999. The Bug disrupted experiments on a variety of scales from NASA to the William T. Redding High School in Omaha, Nebraska. People died, but more importantly to the Bug, people also changed. His primary mission was to cause fear and destruction but the creation of the Misfits of Science became his greatest success. Using a variety of bribery, coercion and mind-control, the Y2K Bug managed to bring together the bewildered Misfits and formed one of the most confused groups of sometime-criminals, sometime-heroes ever seen in America.

Corey Westerfeld was an unpopular and overweight kid in Nebraska when his high school science class was hijacked by the robotic visionary Y2K Bug. The Bug sprayed the entire class with a 'growth-ray' which set loose a whole jungle of angry vines and a half dozen giant rats. The confusion was captured on network television, but Westerfeld's transformation into the human-balloon was what caught everyone's attention: the media and Y2K.

It wasn't hard for Y2K to convince Corey to join the Misfits. The kid was not going to be able to live down his spectacular introduction to the world as 'Balloon Boy'. The city council had spent over two days trying to get him down from the science building. And once he was down he was subjected to a city-wide bullying and harassment campaign. He was 'the' joke.

So when Y2K came back to Nebraska after the world failed to destroy itself on the day of 2000, Corey agreed to join the Misfits and make a lot of money. Since 2000, Corey has matured a little and now appears to be one of the most level-headed members of the team, and displays the most heroic characteristics. He secretly hopes to become a mainstream hero.

Corey began his high school life as a freak and a walking joke, but after being transformed in the science disaster, things got worse. He was ostracized by his family and friends and has only found acceptance amongst the other Misfits. He has taken on a leadership role recently and is trying to convince the team to focus more on super heroic activity rather than small time criminal activities. Because of this he often comes into conflict with the crazy robot, Y2K, but after every argument Corey seems even more determined to become a mainstream hero.

Up, up... u-up... up *ugh* up... up and a -way! Phew!"

Blimp's body has been transformed by a science experiment so that it is now composed of a highly tensile and durable substance. He is able to shape his body to a limited degree, but more importantly he is able to exert uberhuman levels of strength. In addition to his strength and duranility, Blimp is also able to propel himself slowly through the air, although the effort is very taxing on his endurance.

Blimp is a very large young man, blown up beyond what would be considered human. He sinks into the floors of many houses when he's not concentrating on levitating and really has become a misfit of society. As Blimp he wears a dark blue bullet-proof costume with a stylised B on his left breast. Out of uniform Blimp finds it difficult to find anything that is comfortable to wear, and has recently investigated hiring the services of a tailor to make custom-made outfits for him.
