The members of the Black Dragon Society are typically known as Buraku-Ryu after the buraku where the founding Yakuza family members hid to avoid law enforcement and Ichiban. Except for several small time thugs, the majority of the Buraku-Ryu are educated in private colleges run by the Society. Hence, although knowledgeable in typical racketeering, these men and women are also well versed in normal and illegal business practices.

Although all Buraku-Ryu are shareholders in the Society and have a general desire to become wealthy through its activities, most are motivated primarily by loyalty to the Society. Quite a few also have a long held desire for revenge against the Brotherhood of the Finger and Ichiban.

"Why look for gold in pond scum?"

Buraku-Ryu are trained in hand-to-hand combat as well as in the use of firearms. They typically resort to violence only when needed. They have available to them a wide array of weapons and other equipment, some of which seem to be straight out of James Bond movies.

Buraku-Ryu come in all shapes and sizes, although they typically are larger and have more intimidating demeanors than most people. As a discrete display of their loyalty, all bear a tattoo of a black dragon, although this is more elaborate on some Buraku-Ryu than others.
