Ma Hualong is named after a famous nineteenth century Hui or Dungan leader who stood against the Qing Dynasty during the Hui Rebellion. The Hui are Chinese Moslems, while the Dungan is the name the Soviets gave to Chinese immigrants of the Moslem faith. It was Ma Hualongs’ defeat that caused the Hui in China to flee to Czarist Russia, notably Kyrgyzstan. It was after the Soviets took control of Russia, that the Hui became known as Dungan. Hualong is descended from those people who fled from China.

Unlike his fellow Dungan, Hualong eschewed from farming. Instead he felt an affinity for the Tien Shan mountains. Hualong would constantly sneak away from the family collective farm to wander through the mountains. He showed an uncanny ability to leap from ledge to ledge.

Hualong’s first transformation into Snow Leopard occurred when he became an adolescent. His parents were horrified to see their son turn into a huge cat-like monster. They turned to the government, which in turn turned the boy over to the Russian FSB or the Russian Federal Security Service, which was the successor of the KGB. The Russian FSB thought that Hualong would make a possible candidate for the fledgling Russian Dawn team; he was eventually passed over by Taiga, who was an ethnic Russian, while Hualong isn’t. Hualong was given the code-name: Snow Leopard by the Russian FSB. However, Hualong did receive some training by the Russian FSB.

Hualong returned Kyrgystan where he took up the job as a guide into the Tien Shan mountains. However, tourism isn’t as strong in Kyrgystan as in other countries. However, Hualong was able to find other costumers for his skills and powers. The drug trade through the mountains has become a booming business, and Hualong has gotten his hands in it through guiding shipments through the mountains. Hualong found the drug trade more lucrative than showing tourists the mountains. It wasn’t long after Hualong joined the drug trade that he was invited by General Cho to join the Black Lotus Society. Hualong thought that such a change could not only be profitable for him, but would be even more exciting.

Hualong lives for the excitement of being a super-villain. He’s easily bored, and looks upon his chance to go up against other with powers similar to his a great rush. Hualong usually is the first to enter a battle, and while he isn’t stupid, Hualong can get lost in the rush of fighting. The greater the thrill the greater the reward in Hualong’s book.

Hualong is also the most outgoing of all the Ubers of the Black Lotus Society. Nothing seems to get the Dungan down. While Hualong is a Moslem, he’s from a fairly open minded sect. He doesn’t eat pork, but he isn’t into extremist fundamentalism. Again Hualong doesn’t spend much time worrying about the afterlife, life itself it too enjoyable to spend all his time thinking about death.

Hualong in his Snow Leopard form, is a large powerfully built cat-like humanoid. In this form he’s super-humanly strong, and equally swift. Hualong is able to leap and run faster than most normal humans could in areas that only a skilled climber would dare to go slowly. Hualongs’ hand-like paws end with razor sharp claws, which he can use as effective weapons. He also has a set of teeth that would make a saber tooth tiger proud. While not a killer by any means, Hualong does use them against structures, and those he knows can deal with the damage.

Hualong is covered with a thick coat of fur that protects him not only from the severe weather in the mountains, but also acts just like a suit of body armor, protecting from most attacks. All of Hualongs senses are quite keen, and once he’s spotted a foe, there’s little they can do to escape from him.

In his Snow Leopard form, Hualong is a large cat-like humanoid who stands about seven feet in height, and weighs over three hundred pounds, and all of that coiled muscle. His head is that of cat along with long fangs. White fur covers his entire body, and growing from his back is a heavy tail, which Hualong uses for balance. His paw-like hands end with razor sharp claws. Being covered with fur means it’s pointless for Hualong to wear a costume. However, when he returns to his more human shape, Hualong appears wearing clothes including a white hat, which is traditional for a Dungan.
