Chakraborti films had an unorthodox mix of classic Bollywood and cutting edge Hong Kong action flicks, so the audience response was always a little unbalanced. Critics lined up to hand out abuse to Chakraborti but the young director didn't seem to care. He was invited to Hollywood by a big film studio who wanted him to co-direct a remake of a Hong Kong action film. Chakraborti and the American co-director clashed, but amazingly it was the American who left the set. With little time to find a replacement, Chakraborti found himself as the sole director. The film made modest returns although it wasn't a blockbuster, and Chakraborti found himself on the B-List which was more than he had ever imagined possible.

On a trip back to India, he married one of his former leading ladies and decided to settle back in his homeland. An old friend of his, Rajendra Jaishankar, took the opportunity to show him a prototype solid-light projector. Rajendra and Hari had studied together at university and had once talked about the possibility of becoming self-made superheroes. Hari had shrugged off the conversation as fantasy but apparently Rajendra had devoted the next ten years of his life to the project. Now that Hari had returned, Rajendra felt his solid-light projector was ready for the second phase.

Hari loved the idea of becoming a superhero, but he also saw the problems with convincing the public. There needed to be publicity and interest, and Hari realised that he would be responsible for making or breaking the project. Rajendra seemed so enthusiastic that Hari couldn't refuse. He began to modify Rajendra's projector into a more accessible and useful device, utilising his own expertise in special effects and the film industry.

But Rajendra was more than enthusiastic. He took the projector with him one night and decided to confront criminals in their element. He was a scientist and had no real idea of what criminals were capable of. He had read comic books and devoured scores of films, but he hadn't paid attention to the reality of the city around him. Rajendra Jaishankar announced his arrival in a seedy club and was promptly shot - five times, from three different guns. It seemed that Rajendra's announcement didn't fetch much respect in a place like the Ekagrah Club.

Hari felt compelled to avenge his friend's death, and spent another month on his new design before returning to the Club and wreaking absolute havoc. Miraculously he avoided killing anyone, and even more miraculously he managed to apprehend one of the killers. The media loved the story and soon The Director was national news.

The Assembly had only just formed, and The Director became the first recruit after the initial team of four.

The Director is egotistical and enjoys pulling strings, whether it be the solid-light ninjas he is able to create or the people around him. He manages to continue life as both a hero and a film director and uses his fame and contacts to scour the cities for talent. He enjoys flirtatious adventures when out of his wife's presence, but is somewhat browbeaten when she is by his side. There have been some humorous observations about the marriage reported in some of the more tabloid media.

“AAAANND... Action!”

The Director possesses an advanced solid-light projector, designed by the late Rajendra Jaishankar, and modified by Chakraborti and a vast fortune. The gauntlets provide both the housing for the projectors and calibrators for manipulating the light. He is able to produce a wide variety of effects including beams of light, objects of light and his trademark solid-light ninjas which are able to act semi-independently, although they maintain contact with The Director at all times.

Chakraborti is also an accomplished practitioner of kung fu, and has a vast knowledge of special effects and the film industry.

The Director wears a hard armour suit which is silver-grey and black. He wears a headpiece which provides him with protection as well as communication with his solid-light ninjas. On each arm is a gauntlet which includes a solid-light projector and a variety of gauges and calibrating instruments.

Out of uniform, Hari Chakraborti is a flashy dresser. He tends to wears bright silk and wears his black hair slicked back.
