Doctor Washington was a noted cardiologist working in the Washington DC are. It was on the night after a major battle between Sanction and the white supremacist Uber group calling themselves the Freebirds that Crossbow shot Running Rebel of the Freebirds in the heart. Running Rebel was rushed to the Dick Cheney Memorial Hospital, where Doctor Washington was on call. In a way it was ironic, because Doctor Washington was a black man.

Due to the nature of the wound and Running Rebels’ Uber abilities; he was dying fast. While Doctor Washington wasn’t an expert on Ubers he was the only trained surgeon at the hospital that night. X-rays showed that the head of the quarrel was butting up against the heart, so prompt action was called for.

The operation proved to be a tricky one, but Doctor Washington was an experienced surgeon. During the operation, Running Rebel’s chest was cracked open and Doctor Washington even had to massage his heart after the man went flat line. With all the blood, Doctor Washington had to feel around the heart carefully looking for the quarrel. He had just grasped the sharp object when a minor disaster struck. The sharp edges of the head cut into his hand lacerating it deeply. With the quarrel head sticking in his hand, Doctor Washington was able to remove it. His assistant was able to finish the operation.

Doctor Washington received several stitches for his efforts. Running Rebel survived the operation and was later sent to the Langdon Maximum security prison in Maine. As for Doctor Washington he thought nothing of it until he woke up that night with his head spinning. His daughter Abigail rushed into his room after hearing her father thrashing about the place.

He couldn’t seem to orientate himself; the dizziness seemed to intensify with every moment. The he started spinning and the vertigo went completely away. At first Abigail was horrified, but quickly calmed down. It was her levelheadedness that eventually steadied her father. When he stopped spinning the vertigo didn’t return.

Sitting in his ruined bedroom with his daughter, Doctor Washington came to the calm conclusion that the cut from the quarrel head had allowed Running Rebel’s blood to interact with his own. Like an infection, his blood had mutated Doctor Washington’s blood. Now he was an Uber. Unlike Running Rebel who could run really fast, Doctor Washington could spin really fast.

The next day Doctor Washington, who took the code name: Doctor Spin paid a call on Sanction. He offered to help them out. Since Crossbow was on suspended leave, Doctor Spin took his place on a temporary basis. Later on Doctor Spin was invited to join Sanction as a full time member.

Doctor Washington has always been the calm one when things go chaotic. He has always been that way. This probably the reason he became a surgeon. Very little troubles him during an emergency. For him that is the time that his training takes over. Being a super-hero isn’t as chaotic compared to an emergency room in Doctor Spins’ opinion.

“Come on, let’s spin again, like we did last summer.”

The mingling of Running Rebels’ blood with his own has caused Doctor Spins’ ubergene to become active. Now Doctor Spin can rotate his body at super-human velocities. However, Doctor Spin is able to function as if he were standing still. Doctor Spin can even spin his way up and over walls.

Doctor Spin has developed a number of attack routines using his spinning. By grabbing a foe he can either throw them a long distance, or spin them around so fast that they become dizzy. Doctor Spin can deliver multiple blows against a group of foes. By spinning he becomes really difficult to strike. His oddest ability is the ability to act like a human drill and actually tunnel in the ground.

Doctor Spin is a large Afro-American with a close cropped Afro. Before becoming a doctor, James played collegiate football. He’s still in peak physical shape. For a costume, Doctor Spin wears a specially reinforced set of green medical scrubs that Sanction made for him. On one shoulder of his scrubs is an American flag. To hide his identity Doctor Spin wears a surgical mask and matching cap. However, most foes just see him as a spinning green blur. Outside his duties to Sanction, Doctor Washington likes to wear clothing typical of a doctor.
