Luljeta Mediu fled from an arranged marriage into the arms of charismatic Lorenc Dhimgioka, the youngest son of the infamous Dhimgioka crime family, or fis. The Dhimgioka were one of the Fifteen Families who controlled the extensive smuggling trade in Albania, as well as having influence over the corrupt Albanian leader Enver Hoxa. Albania has isolated itself from the rest of the world during the 1980s and the Fifteen Families had complete control over the lives of the people.
Luljeta was fooled by Lorenc and found herself forced into prostitution, usually entertaining the Italian sailors who made unscheduled stops along the coast. She attempted to escape but was repeatedly beaten. They gave her heroin to control her, but she reacted unexpectedly, transforming into a white dove. It was the freedom she craved and as she flew into the highest reaches of Tirana she felt her past life fall away behind her.
But it wasn't that easy.
The Dhimgioka family pursued her and cornered her again the following night. She was beaten but found herself fighting back. She kicked out at her attackers, clawed at their skin. They retreated and she stood in the alley feeling a wave of pride wash over her. The next night she began her crusade against the Dhimgiokas, spying upon their clandestine criminal activities as a dove and then flying in later to take advantage of the situation.
After several strategic strikes against the family she was approached by one of the other Fifteen Families, the Peshkopi Family. They wanted to see the Dhimgioka family fall apart as well and offered to assist Luljeta with information and equipment.
She accepted, although she knew that after the Dhimgioka family were taken care of, there would be another fourteen families to destroy.
Note: Dove is a character from the Bronze Age and is active during the early 1980s.
She has seen other women treated poorly and knows that Albania is suffering. She has no love for the government or authority, as they are either in the pocket of the Fifteen Families or working for those who are. There is no independence in Albania, so Dove can trust no one but herself. She co-operates with the Peshkopi Family but does not trust them.
Dove is able to transform into a white dove, an ability brought on by her exposure to heroin. Her dove form is not exceptional, although it does allow her to fly and to remain inconspicuous while she spies on the Dhimgioka criminal family. She has
developed 'throwing feathers' which are lightweight blades, but relies more on surveillance
than direct confrontations.
Dove is developing detective skills as she continues her crusade, and given time would become a formidable opponent.
Dove wears a light grey jumpsuit with darker grey knee-high boots, wrist guards and feather-shoulder pads. She has puffy sleeves on her upper arms made of a soft pink silk which is also used for her gloves. She always wears a mask which hides her identity, although her shoulder-length brown hair is always loose. Since escaping from the Dhimgioka family she has cut her hair shorter so as to be more practical in combat
(and to hide from those who knew her in the past).
When Dove does take off her costume she tends to wears modest clothing which hides her body as best as she can. While she feels confident about her abilities and body as Dove, when she takes off her mask and returns to being plain Luljeta Mediu, she feels awkward in social situations.
