Background

Dr al-Basit developed her rescue armour as a result of losing her mother in a hiking accident. Her mother died because rescue workers were unable to climb into the inhospitable mountain area where she had wandered and the weather reduced visibility to less than ten metres. Years later she achieved her goal of creating a rescue armour which she dubbed O.L.G.A. (Operated Life Guard Armour), but could only do so with the financial and scientific support of Southern Cross International. She was welcomed to the organisation and given control over the technological research and development area. Things were surprisingly good for Fatima al-Basit.

But then she started to become suspicious of the CEO.

Stories began circulating that he was a time-traveller and that he had come back to the current time period to change his future. Fatima didn't like the sound of that, and her fears became more pronounced when she discovered information that Southern Cross International was conducting research on the immune systems of ubers. It was known that Tempus was not an uber, that he relied on technological devices. Fatima deduced that Tempus was up to no good.

When an evil version of Tempus from an alternate timeline appeared and began attempting to subjugate the people of Sydney, she overheard talk of a future virus which targeted ubers.

She put one and one together and came up with seven. She believed that Tempus was conducting research on young ubers in order to develop a virus which would kill them off. Fatima was appalled at her discovery and never thought to challenge it. She anonymously contacted Professor Quake and informed him of her fears.

Quake immediately believed her. He had been suspicious of Southern Cross International for some time. The phone call began a long-standing relationship between Quake and Fatima, who took on the alias of Enigma.

Quake attempts to destroy Southern Cross from the outside, while Fatima attempts to find weaknesses in the organisation from within. So far no one has noticed her role as a double-agent. She believes that she is safeguarding the futures of ubers, but is, in fact, putting them in jeopardy as Tempus is secretly searching for a vaccine which will cancel out the effects of a future retro-virus that targets ubers.

Fatima works within the Sydney Headquarters of Southern Cross International and is at the forefront of new technological discoveries.

She is known amongst the staff as 'Mother' because she created the O.L.G.A. Bots as well as the Southern Cross armour.

Personality
Fatima al-Basit loves technology and has the uber ability to instinctively understand and create advanced technology. She is naturally a quiet woman, but is capable of addressing large groups as long as she is confident about the subject matter. She sees her role within Southern Cross International as primarily a designer for equipment and gadgets which assist with the protection and rescue of normal people. She is very proud of her O.L.G.A. Bots and follows their activities closely when they are on assignment.

Fatima is unsure of her growing relationship with Professor Quake, however. It keeps her awake at night, and she fears that she is being used by the leader of Gauntlet. She maintains the relationship because she worries that Saxon Durant III is planning to develop an anti-uber virus.
Quote
"Give me a second... I'll come up with something to fix... that... There! Press the blue button and things should be back to normal. Maybe even better if I've spliced the wires sufficiently."
Powers

Fatima possesses an instinctive affinity with technology and is able to create devices and gadgets which may seem unnatural or even illogical, but which are able to produce an array of impressive abilities. She has created sensor systems, offensive and defensive technology and even transportation devices.

Her abilities require silence to work at their optimum levels, and any kind of annoying background noise seriously disrupts her ability to produce devices. She demands silence in her work areas and has been known to snap at scientists and assistants who hum along to their iPods while working.

Since taking on her Enigma persona, Fatima has started wearing a force field belt. She fears that she may become a target for assassination if her activities become known by Southern Cross International. What she doesn't know, is that C.L.A.W. has noticed her abilities and has taken an interest in her. They have attempted to kidnap her on a number of occasions, although all attempts have been thwarted so far.

Appearance

Fatima al-Basit is a small Lebanese woman who spends a lot of time thinking and not much time worrying about her appearance. She keeps her hair short and manageable and wears a lab coat almost everywhere. When forced to ditch the coat she wears unassuming clothes. Her only concession to fashion are her pair of worn Doc Marten boots.
