Background

Jesse Balsman was an average student at UNC Charlotte who really didn't know where he was going. He was supposed to major in mathematics, but didn't have the interest or ability to really make it stick. When he saw a flyer for a medical experiment exactly one minute after realising he had failed his semester, Jesse signed up. It wasn't so much the fifty dollars they were offering, as a chance to take his mind off his imminent expulsion from the university.

He wasn't exactly sure when things went pear shaped, but when he found himself strapped to a trolley and wheeled into a huge chamber, he became a little nervous. And then the searing pain made him regret his entire life. He had made one mistake after another and it all led to this moment. Scientists were bombarding him with intense magnetic fields in some weirdo experiment. And he was going to die.

But still, Jesse, had it wrong again.

Ali Cheung busted into the room, set off a series of disasters and saved him from the nefarious plots of C.L.A.W.. When things settled he realised that his body had changed and that he retained some strange control over the magnetic field he had been bombarded with. And he seemed to have become smarter - which was the goal of the C.L.A.W. scientists.

He returned to university and passed his semester, but that was now his secondary concern. As Ali attempted to leave the city, Jesse convinced her to stay and start a crime fighting career. He surprised her with his own martial arts training and they began to make some dents into the city's crime rate.

When Ali was framed for murder, Jesse was the one who held the duo together and convinced her to stay and fight the frame-up.

Personality
Jesse has been obsessed with super heroes and martial arts since he was a child, but now he actually has access to super powers. He is loving life and has taken control of Sound and Fury's activities, managing their public relations (which is difficult in a city which is cracking down on vigilantes) as well as their missions.

He has also become an attentive student, surprising his tutors and lecturers who never really noticed him before. He has become something of a mathematical genius, although he much prefers to be known as a martial arts master.

Jesse is naive. Ali has tried to explain the inherent shades of grey in life, but he still holds on to his black and white views and child-like assumptions.

Powers

Fury has the limited ability to manipulate magnetic fields, which he uses primarily to charge weapons or objects with a stunning charge. His body has hardened under the magnetic bombardment so he can now take quite a beating. He has continued his martial arts training with Ali, but had already developed impressive skills before the accident.

Appearance

Jesse was a lanky kid with floppy brown hair and a cheesy grin before the accident. He never really raised any attention. After the accident he has developed a presence about him which seems to radiate power and confidence. He has shaved his hair back and his body is now toned and powerful. As Fury, Jesse wears a red and white armour made of an experimental ceramic material developed by UNC designers.
