Background

Rima Garibaldi fled north from Sicily during the German occupation of Italy in the 1940s. Her husband was a communist and an important member of the partisan network which sprung up around the northern provinces after the Germans began to retreat. In 1944 Rima's life on the run ended, and her husband was one of seven men executed in Venice after a German soldier was found dead in a canal.

Rima never recovered. She lapsed into a coma and would have been left to rot away if it hadn't been for her 'uncle', an influential southern gentleman who organised a lawyer to watch over the 'sleeping beauty'. For forty-seven years Rima Garibaldi passed time in a coma, and gradually amassed a modest fortune through bequests and wills of family members. Only her lawyer knew of the accumulated wealth, and he was bound to secrecy by the mafia in Palermo.

In 1991 Rima emerged from her coma, but was unable to remember any of her previous life. She was an empty shell, without past and no apparent future. She passed her life in anonymity in a convalescent home, but as she was ignored, her memories returned. She was horrified to find herself in the body of an old woman, while her mind was still that of a fiercely patriotic twenty year old. Her husband had been murdered, her life stolen from her; and it seemed that Germany was still a powerful country. There had been no justice.

As she grew in awareness, she realised that there would be no justice. Italy was corrupt, a dishonourable corruption which was a mockery of what she and her husband had fought for. Rima wanted revenge, and with her hidden wealth, she set about recruiting the disenfranchised workers of the home with an elaborate plot for revenge forming in her dark mind.

After clashing with the Dawnstars, Garibaldi disappeared, only to reappear again a year later when she organised a bombing at a European Union dinner, her target being the German Ambassador and his wife. She remains at large.

Note: When the Dawnstars travelled back in time they met a younger Rima who assisted them in recovering an artefact and opposing the German uberhumans. She has never made mention of her experience with the Dawnstars although it is possible that the Dawnstars travelled to an alternate timeline and the modern Rima Garibaldi never did meet them. Alternatively she may be aware of her past and be choosing to withhold that information.

Personality
Signora Garibaldi is bitter. She has lost over fifty years of her life to a coma, only to emerge into a world where the enemies of the past are still a powerful force. She hates all things to do with Germany, blaming them for the death of her husband and subsequently any chance at happiness she had. She is a hard woman, uncaring and severe in her assessment of others.
Quote
Quote: "I will bear my cross, and face Judgement with a sound conscience. Can the same be said of you?"

Quote About Her: "She is horrid, absolutely horrid." - former matron at the Nursing Home, later found drowned in her own home.
Powers

Signora Garibaldi is a latent mutant, whose gift (or curse) is longevity. She will live several centuries, but will do so as an old woman.

Appearance

Signora Garibaldi looks like she has weathered a thousand years of torment. Her face is gaunt and her body is hard and angular. She has spent most of her life in a coma, and those missing years have made her bitter which has further spoilt any beauty she once had. Her voice is hard but soft and her eyes are mean. Although she is in possession of a fair amount of money, Signora Garibaldi does not attempt to live comfortably. She wears simple dressing gowns, does little with her hair, and looks like a typical guest at a nursing home.
