I cannot say that my life has been the easiest, but neither has it been the hardest. I cannot say that no one has helped me, nor can I say that I have helped no one.Three years ago, I was but a simple midwife of this city. I had, by then delivered into this world only as many new lives as I have fingers on my right hand. Regretfully, one of those five perished soon after from disease. Yet, at the time something wondrous was happening. Many nations of our wondrous continent came together. Many people from these nations and others around the world came together. They came together because they saw the people suffering and they saw the people living in want of peace. Doctor Tsholofelo and Kagiso Tsholofelo showed their dreams to the people of Africa... to the people of the World. And everyone saw what a wonderful dream it was - or at least most everyone saw it. Those that didn't, saw Africa Force as something that would cause problems to their own desire to dominate others.I was one among many crowded about the steps of the parliament building watching a television. Even as we witnessed the proceedings of the Nairobi conference, a woman went into a fast labor. And it was then during that stressful moment that I found that I had the ability to create cloth of my own body. The babe was born and swaddled in a simple kanga of my own making. While I was proud for bringing into this world another precious life, I was also afraid. Normal people do not make silken cloth from their own body. I was something different. Was I a monster? Was I a demon? Was I a goddess? Was I akin to the Sons of Set?A woman, who we all know as the Heart of Africa found me. The rumors of what I had did on the steps of the parliament had passed about quickly. First, she told me that the child had been named Hope and that she was doing well. And that calmed me. Next, she told me stories of people like me, who had strange abilities. Some used the abilities to help others. Some used the abilities to take from others. Then, she brought me into the room of the Nairobi Conference where I sat quietly until the end of the day. That was when she introduced me to a man an a woman who were from America. They took me under their wing and taught me.I am still but a simple midwife and simple nanny. But, I have also been blessed with amazing abilities. I thank the New Men - Doctor Saul Numen, Doctor Chloe, Miss Ines Escobar, and the Numen children - for showing me what it is to be a champion of the world; for showing me how a simple woman can do things with her amazing abilities to make the world a better place. Now, it is time for me to move on. I will make the world a better place starting with Nairobi... starting with Kenya... starting with Africa. I am now both Adia Kibwe, simple midwife, and Kanga, member of Africa Force. The acceptance speech by Adia Kibwe, June 2006 |
