| The father of the Numen family and leader of the New Men, Saul is also one of the world's pre-eminent scientists. He had developed numerous advanced equipment (most of which he keeps as proprietary secrets) and has also been transformed during the accident in Turkey into an uberhuman with extremely rapid healing. | |
| Having recently returned from the Reverse Dimension, Saul had set aside his superheroic endeavors for two years to oversee the Numen-Kami Institute and to do research in transdimensional physics. Due to recent events, however, he was reported to have announced his return to action as New Man. | |
| The mother of the Numen family and Leader of the New Men, Chloe is a skilled diplomat and pilot. Her work has brought about much needed social improvements throughout the world. She also has been transformed during the accident in Turkey into an uberhuman with the ability to warp space. | |
| Since the disappearance of Saul, Chloe has been a valuable member of the Dawnstars team in Europe. Once again, she was instrumental in bringing her husband back to the world. | |
| The middle sibling of three, Balthasar is both the younger brother and older brother. From the accident which spawned the New Men, he gained generally superior physical ability as well as the ability to communicate with animals. | |
| Balthasar was the first of the Numen children to strike out on his own, joining the original Hero City team upon its inception. Balthasar has also traveled the world independently winding up a recent trip to Japan by helping Saul return to Earth. | |
| The youngest of the Numen children, Jeremy is just entering his teen years. Still a toddler during the accident in Turkey, he quickly became a handful for his parents with his duplicating powers. | |
| After the accident in which his father went missing, Jeremy was placed under the care of Ines and given some degree of shielding away from the media while he 'grows up'. He attends Argus High School and has been part of an informal team of teen heroes. | |
| Background | |
| In 1992, Saul and Chloe took their families to eastern Turkey on a trip with three purposes. The first purpose and the primary reason for going was to seek out Arshavir Madrian, a mystic who purportedly could turn water into oil. But not being one to overlook secondary purposes, Saul was prepared to do a field survey study of the ubergenes of Armenia. A third purpose was the second field test of the Gene Alteration Ray Projector (a.k.a. the 'Gene Gun') as part of a project, sponsored by the Twist Foundation, to cure the son of a village mayor - a wolf-boy that was terrorizing the region's inhabitants.
As they were flying over Lake Van, Saul went to the minilab in the back of the plane to work on the Gene Gun since it was likely that curing a wolf-boy would be quite complex. It was then that a missile struck the craft and sent it in a twisting fall into the lake. The Gene Gun activated during the tumble and broke free of its lock-down bolts. Saul, the three children, Chloe and his sister Alsana, were struck by the uncontrolled, pulsating beam which altered their genes and inserted ubergene plasmids into the nuclei of their cells. What resulted defied the assertion made by Saul and his colleagues that claimed a discrete pattern of ubergene inheritance and phenotype expression. Saul, Chloe, Alsana, and the three children came out of the lake each with a different mutant power. ... | |
| Area of Operations | |
| The New Men have had numerous adventures all over (as well as in) the Earth as well as on other extraterrestrial and extradimensional worlds. Numen family has its primary residence in a penthouse suite of the Sterling Building on 5th Avenue. However, they are seldom there. The residence in Argus City currently gets the most use as Jeremy and Ines are there most of the time while he attends Argus High School. Chloe occasionally uses the homes in Vienna and Barcelona. The homes in Yokohama and Melbourne are used rarely. | |

In dimension 840204var1b, Saul and Chloe Numen encounter tyrannical versions of themselves. The Chloe and Saul of that dimension are known as Time and Life and they are the First Directors of the United Nations, essentially dictators of the world. Their created children, Samantha, Balthasar and Jeremy are their primary enforcers known as Hellfire, the Beast and Horde. Our Saul and Chloe free the other dimension's version of Witch Doctor and Seven Soldiers from Fort Leavenworth. Seven Soldiers proceeded to incite a riot in the Supermax while Witch Doctor helped Saul and Chloe destroy the Time-Life Tower, taking out the MegaGene Facility and the TimeWarp Doorway. With Witch Doctor's help, Saul and Chloe take Time and Life's 'Seat of Power' flying base and return to their own dimension. Saul later renovates the craft and dubs it 'Harmony', the New Men's new home. After seeing the warped other dimensional version of the Numen family and seeing the love shared between the other dimensional Witch Doctor and his son Akela, our Chloe suggested bringing the family back together. Saul agreed. |

The New Men arrive in Melbourne, Australia, en route to Sydney where Saul and Chloe will be awarded the Sydney Peace Prize. It is the first time the family has been reunited and the world's media has a frenzy. While in the city the New Men discover that Melbourne's metahumans have all been killed in a mysterious accident several years ago, and find themselves caught up in a conspiracy to bring about a permanent end to metahuman activity in the city. Several organised crime families, sections of a corrupt police force and the metahuman mercenary, Paradise, have all joined together to import alien technology into the Docklands which was to be used to create a permanent anti-metagene field. The entire plan was secretly engineered by The Professor as part of an investigation into the experiment of April 2003. Unfortunately the New Men were caught in the backlash of the Professor's experiment and would have been killed if not for the sacrifice of Saul. The New Men were thrust forward in time by three days, while Saul was lost in the timestream. |
