| Background |
Jadwiga was raised in an orphanage in Warsaw. Growing up the other children of the orphanage often teased Jadwiga, calling her an Odmience, or a Changed One, after the fairy tales about the Boginki who stole children and replaced them with a changeling called an Odmience. The reason the children said Jadwiga was an Odmience was that she was a rather plain girl, and over the years none of the parents would adopt her. Such teasing might have hardened young Jadwiga’s heart, but it didn’t. Instead she started to see the orphanage as her real family, and didn’t want to be adopted. Jadwiga turned her energies to the betterment of the children of the orphanage. She was thirteen when her Uber abilities emerged. This was also the time that Jadwiga disappeared from the orphanage. She didn’t really leave the orphanage, but her new ability to assume the shape of almost anyone allowed the plain and unassuming Jadwiga to move about the orphanage almost as if she were invisible. When Jadwiga turned eighteen she left Warsaw; no one even noticed her leaving. Jadwiga moved to Moscow where she got a job as social worker. Her job made her in charge of the Saint Vladimir’s Orphanage. Jadwiga thought she would have no use for her abilities change shapes, but the orphanage was always low on essentials, due to the worsening Russian economy. To help the orphanage survive, Jadwiga turned to impersonating important people to get the things the orphanage needed. It was during these activities that Jadwiga met Vasilisa and Zhanna.Oddly enough the three young women hit it off. While each had their own goals, Vasilisa wanted to recover her families lost treasures, and Zhanna wanted to become a doctor, it was really Jadwiga who meshed the three into a group. Jadwiga has never considered herself a criminal, only a person trying to survive in difficult times, and aiding the children under her care. She has even gotten Zhanna to help out the orphanage. Jadwiga is still working on Vasilisa. |
| Personality |
Jadwiga has lived her entire life among orphans. This has shaped her life. Jadwiga sees that society does not place much value on orphans and orphan causes. So Jadwiga feels that she must be the one to champion the orphans. However, in a society like Russia this means turning to crime. Jadwiga steals so that the orphans can eat, and have descent bedding. When she lived in the orphanage in Warsaw, these things were always in short supply. Otherwise, Jadwiga is a reserved young woman, and is the least social of the three woman of Glasnost. Jadwiga keeps her thoughts to herself, which lends an air of mystery to her. Vasilisa and Zhanna are always trying to get Jadwiga to come out of her shell. |

| Powers |
Jadwiga is a shape shifter. Her power allows her to take on the appearance of almost anyone. Only by the use of mental powers can her subterfuge be detected. Jadwiga has trained her mind to resist mental intrusion. Also if Jadwiga were to be knocked out she’d revert to her plain old self. Otherwise Jadwiga can be anyone, and can make the change in the blink of the eye. Jadwiga isn’t as powerful as some other shape shifters in that she cannot grow larger or smaller, nor increase her strength, even though she’s stronger and more resilient than a normal person. In addition to her shape changing abilities Jadwiga can climb shear walls by pressing her flesh between the cracks. |
| Appearance |
In her normal shape, Jadwiga is a rather plain woman. She has shoulder length mousy brown hair, and rather large eyes. However, Jadwiga rarely shows her true self to the world. Instead she takes on the appearance of others. There is no limit to the appearances Jadwiga can take. However, she cannot add appendages such as wings or a tail, nor can Jadwiga remove an appendage (she cannot become an one armed person). Otherwise, Jadwiga can become male or female, young or old. |
