During the heyday of the Russian space program, Vassily Bulenkov was a famous cosmonaught with a number of important missions under his belt. however, on his last mission into space, something went terribly wrong. An oxygen tank exploded in his spacecraft killing all of the crew, except for Vassily. The spacecraft was also heavily damaged by the explosion. Things went totally out of control, but it was through Vassilies increadible flying skills that he was able to control the spacecrafts decaying orbit to a degree. It was unfortunate that the spacecraft spend almost five hours within the Van Allen radiation belt. Vassily was bombarded by a massive dose of radiation. Finally Vassily passed out, and lost what little control he had over the spacecraft.Eventually the spacecraft return to Earth, a long way off from its intended drop point. The spacecraft crashed in the Artic Ocean, and promptly sank. The spacecraft was quickly located by a nearby Russian submarine, but Vassilies body wasn't found. His body was never recovered and Vassily was presumed dead. A state memorial service was held in his honor. However, unknown to the Russians, Vassily still lived, but his body was encased in ice not far from the downed spacecraft. The radiation and the expossure to the extreme cold of the ice activated his latent Ubergene. It was ten years before Vassily was freed from his icy tomb. A Russian Aeroloft jet plane crashed near where Vassily was entombed. The intense heat from the crash melted the ice holding him prisoner. For a while Vassily was used by the government, and was a member of the KGB super-hero group called Oktober, Vassily went by the code name of Prachvost or Blackguard after the color of the ice his powers generated. It was during the defense of Moscow that he was wounded by a stray bullet. The wound caused him to loose his memory, and with it his powers.Later Vassily moved to Vladivostok, and started to raise a family. He married and had a daughter. Vassily never thought about his past life, but all that changed after his fishing vessel crashed. The cold waters of the Sea of Japan brought back the old memories and with them his dormant powers. Forgetting completely about his family Vassily returned to Moscow only to find that his old comrades in Oktober were now considered criminals. Feeling a kinship with the members of Oktober, Vassily threw his lot in with them. |
