Background

The winds whipped across the desert for days. Rashid hunkered down in his tent waiting for the winds to die down. Born a bedouin, he knew that these things could go on for days, and afterwards he’d have to go searching for his herd. Hopefully the sheep wouldn’t have scattered too far away from the tents, but only Allah knew for sure.

That night the storm finally blew off towards the sea, and Rashid came out to see a sky clear and dark. The moon had waned, and all the stars shone brightly in the night sky over the desert. Rashid said a quick prayer to Allah in thanks. As the beduin turn to return to his sleep rolls, a falling star flashed across the sky. Rashid took this as a good omen.

The next day luck was with Rashid and he quickly found his stray sheep, and was going to return them to their feeding grounds when he saw something flashing in the distance. Curiosity got the better of Rashid; the sheep could wait for a little while.

Rashid trudged deeper into the desert, the light seemed to call Rashid on. It took most of the day to find the object that was emmitting light. In a crater created from a falling piece heaven Rashid found a sand colored stone that glowed with the light of heaven. Reverently, Rashid picked up the stone with both hands. The stone was warm, but not hot to the touch. For some reason the stone made Rashid think of the Black Stone in Mecca. Rashid knew that he had to present the stone to his shiekh, and wrapped it up in a strip of the clothe of his robes.

With light steps Rashid retraced his path back towards his tribes lands. Rashid wasn't paying close attention and almost droped the stone. In fear he opened his bundle. The stone had a crack in it, and like a hen's egg hatching it fell into pieces. However, Rashid was left with an infant boy newborn in his hands. However, this boy was like no other. The child was made entirely of sand. Rashid was in awe, and then the infant opened its' sandy eyes and looked at Rashid and smiled.

Rashid named the boy Jamal, and raised him as his own. Jamal has used his abilities to protect the bedouins of Oman, and on occassion the everyday people of Oman and the Arabian Penensula. To the outside world, Jamal is known as Raml or Sand Dune. Rashid has never been able to explain to Jamal what exactly happened the day that the bedouin found the stone that became Jamal.

Personality

Raml presents to the world a wise and confident adult. He likes everyone to think that he's an adult, but the truth is more like an act. When angered or frustrated Raml typically acts like the teenager that he really is. However, while Raml does age, he has no idea how long he'll live.

Raml has a strong sense of justice. He doesn't see himself as a hero, but feels that often he must act to make sure justice is served. Otherwise, Raml thinks of himself as an average bedouin.

Quote

"The desert is a harsh mistress. To me she is my mother."

Powers

Raml is able to control the medium of his body as if it were made of individually controlled grains of sand joined in a liquid-like state. By drawing in more matter between his grains of sand he can grow in size or length. By changing how these sand grains relate, Raml can immitate the color or texture of rock or sand. His inherent ability to know every little grain of himself allows Raml to reform missing sand grains of himself from other stone.

Appearance

Raml normally wears no clothing beyond an occasional set of slippers when he doesn't want not to ruin expensive floorings or carpets. He is normally beige in color, or red brown, with lighter or darker hues dependent on the ground he's most recently moved through. While his form varies, it's mostly recognizable as vaguely humanoid, even when the overall form isn't.

When not actively shaping himself, Raml usually settles into a youngish looking man of a lean build, with close cropped hair (shaped anyway) with the raised texture of a long sleeved tunic, a sleeveless cloak, and a headclothe or kufiyya --all made of the same material, him.
