Background

Satish Ranganathan worked with Rajendra Jaishankar on the development and stabilization of solid-light. Ranganathan hoped to utilize the discovery to help rebuild devastated communities such as those affected by earthquake. Jaishankar, on the other hand, had grand visions of becoming a super hero. While Jaishankar had a very short career as a hero, being killed within a few weeks of unveiling his discovery, the scientist's friend, Hari Chakraborti had more success, modifying the solid-light projectors and becoming the Indian hero, Director: the first person to join The Assembly after its formation.

Ranganathan was worried about the Director's use of the solid-light projectors and hastily left India during the incursion and subsequent control of Pakistan. While not officially in exile, Ranganathan refused to assist the Indian government in mass-producing the solid-light projectors. He remained out of the country, gaining work in Indonesia and later with the United Nations based in Belgium. His relationship with the Director has improved since the initial conflict in Pakistan and he and Chakraborti have collaborated on various enhancements to the projectors, as well as other independent projects.

Ranganathan was sent to Africa to assist with relief efforts in Somalia, and then transferred to Dili, East Timor where he currently works to assist the Timorese establish and enhance their infrastructure. The Indian government has shown renewed interest in Ranganathan's technology and have suggested he return to his homeland and join the Assembly. He fears that they will not be satisfied with his refusal for very much longer and hopes to be transferred back to Europe soon.
Personality
Dr Ranganathan is an erudite man who has grown weary of politics although he still involves himself in the constant political bickering of local places as part of a United Nations delegation. He genuinely wants to help people recover from disaster and can sometimes get impatient if his efforts are hindered by bureaucracy. He has grown more nervous and agitated since the Indian Government has renewed its calls for him to return to his country. He believes India has fallen into very dark times and never wants to step foot on her soil again, or at least not until the Assembly and the government has been held to account for the crimes it has committed.

Powers

Ranganathan is a gifted engineer who has patented the solid-light projectors: technology which is able to produce a hard-energy which would seem impossible. The light is able to support great weights, and his 'solid light elephants' are able to lift 50 tons. The 'elephants' are projected from large power generators but seemingly move independently within a 20m radius. They are able to move and manipulate the area under the guidance of Ranganathan. He has also constructed power frames which allow the solid-light to be used for semi-permanent structures.
Appearance

Ranganathan is a tired-looking man in his fifties who is rather overweight and seems like he carries the world's problems on his shoulders. He hardly smiles and has not laughed in years, although he would argue that he enjoys his time surveying the land.
