Background

Barbara Gates always had an overactive imagination, but when her dreams started to appear in her bedroom and move around on their own, she thought she was going a little crazy. Her parents walked in on one of her 'day dreams' and decided they needed to give their daughter some help. They went to the Los Angeles Numen-Kami Institute and tried to get Barbara enrolled as a student.

After spending two weeks at the Institute, Gates was sent away. The specialists decided that she was better off at home with her family and her powers didn't seem to represent much interest to the Numen-Kami Institute. They seemed limited.

Barbara didn't understand, and felt like she was worthless and a freak. Her family took her home to Canada but was soon contacted by the Y2K Bug which destroyed the girl's house and family and kidnapped her to join the Misfits. Rather than be distressed by the destruction, Barbara was smitten with one of the other Misfits: Treat, and so began one of the strangest love stories of all time.

Since joining the Misfits, Barbara has dabbled into stage magic tricks and has actually developed quite a range of skills in that area - despite seemingly unable to even program her mobile phone.
Personality
Barbara is not the sharpest tool in Y2K's shed. She is distracted by bright lights and has difficulty following complex instructions, often falling into a giggling state when she doesn't understand something.

Powers

Barbara is able to project sound and light but is limited to creating images. After being expelled from the Numen-Kami Academy she has learned to focus intense bursts of light and sight to effectively immobilise a target, and has expanded her control beyond conventional light and sound.

Under Y2K's tuition she has been able to create solid-light constructs from two-dimensional images, enabling her to bring armies of pictures to life.
Appearance

Barbara is a young woman with pale skin, freckles and shoulder-length hair which she keeps back in a ponytail. Although she worries about her diet and constantly talks about beauty, she really does come across as a plastic doll in the flesh. As Trick, she wears a black jumpsuit and her face is mostly concealed with her high-tech goggles.
