Hilary and her two sisters, Jeanne and Rachel, grew up in luxury on the island of New Caledonia. Her parents were industrialists, rumoured to be involved in illegal arms deals in West Africa, but they were never brought to account. When the girls were ten, masked men invaded their home and took them away. For several weeks the girls were bound and gagged, and kept hidden in darkness, with only themselves for comfort. It was during this time that their mind link fully activated, allowing them to soothe each other in the darkness. |
